Heather Bryant is completely fascinated by the intersection of journalism and technology. As an award-winning journalist and editor, she works on initiatives in data, social media, interactive storytelling and custom content presentations. She's a full-stack software engineer and is building new tools and projects to explore how technology can better serve journalism and reach diverse audiences.
While at KTOO Public Media in Juneau, AK, Heather redesigned the digital presence of the radio and television stations. She also helped form the digital aspects of the organization’s long term strategic plan and leads digital training sessions at conferences and workshops. She is a graduate of Hackbright Academy, a software engineering program for women in San Francisco. There she built a web app that algorithmically generated real time news stories on natural disasters from live data feeds. She now serves as a teaching assistant, helping with lectures, advising and the lab. She’s currently working on a editorial workflow management app to help newsrooms strategically organize their reporters and content across all of their publishing platforms.
